St Paul's Lutheran Primary School and Kindergarten

Caboolture, Queensland

Term 2 Week 5

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It was wonderful to receive the Year 6 students, staff and parent helpers back safe and sound last Thursday evening. It was even better to see them well, smiling and highly engaged back in their school environment yesterday morning. From all accounts the Outback Queensland experience was fabulous and enriching with a wide selection of “favourite experiences” shared by the students. Well done to all of you on your outstanding behaviour, engagement with others and collaboration during your time away. A lot of growth in their own abilities, self-confidence and experiences as individuals would have taken place over the past week. Behind the scenes a tremendous amount of planning and preparation was put in place by the Year 6 staff members - Mrs. Cottrell, Mr. Smith and Mrs. Dellaway – thank you for your commitment to making this such a memorable occasion. Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers and volunteer – Mr. Cope, Mrs. Costall, Mr. Herson, Mrs. Palmer and Pastor Mike – for giving up both work and family time to assist the students and staff on their safari. Next week will see our Year 4 students attend their camp on Sunshine Coast.

The Year 3 and 5 students as well as the staff supporting these learners, need to be congratulated and thanked for the smooth running of the NAPLAN testing last week. Despite all the media hype St Paul’s, over the years, has always followed a philosophy of keeping in mind the context of the tests. NAPLAN is a single point-in-time snapshot of the students’ literacy and numeracy proficiency. It is not a high stakes pass or fail test. Thank you to Mrs. Kube for the co-ordination of all the administration during this time.

One of the agenda items on today’s P&F meeting agenda will be to call for expressions of interest to serve on a Uniform Committee. After feedback from the parent community in 2016, St Paul’s will be doing a review of the current school uniform moving forward. This committee will consist of representatives from the parent body, P&F Group, school staff and School Council members. If you would like to be on the committee, please register your expression of interest with the front office by Monday 22 May. Please feel free to attend the P&F meeting at 3:15pm today. Thank you for your consideration in this important matter.

This coming Sunday will see the Year 4 students present their School Sunday. During my walk around the school and visit to their Agile Learning Lab, I was drawn in during one of their singing rehearsals by a throw-back to the mid-1980s and then sworn to secrecy by Mr Nicholls in the lead up to Sunday! I look forward to you sharing with us on Sunday.

Yours in Christ,

Anton Prinsloo
