Senior Sports Gala Day

The first round of Caboolture Sports Gala Day was a massive hit for our Year 4-6 St Paul’s students. With all Junior and Senior Football and AFL teams competing against tough competition, we left the day with a mixture of wins, losses and draws across the board. All the students never stopped battling, their resilience was fantastic, they showed great sportsmanship and played fair all day. Coaches were very proud of the way students quickly learned to support and back each other up. Special acknowledgment to the following students; Best and fairest Awards: Deleni Paitai, Abbey Thomason, Nirvana Chymyn, Mozes Arjun, Julius Stimson and Oliver Allen. Most Improved Awards: Thomas Wilson, Casey Wilmington, Oliver Ryan, Maddy Cochran and Ayen Akech. Thank you to our fabulous coaches: Mr Neldner, Mr Bellert, Mr Nicholls, Mrs Cottrell and all of our parent supporters for generously making time out of their day to show their encouragement and support! We are already looking forward to the next Sports Gala Day Competition in Term 3.

Music

In Year 4 Music this term, students have been using the pentatonic scale (5 note scale) to compose a tune using a set rhythm. They have then written their composition on the staff and performed it using the glockenspiel.

Prep

The last 2 weeks we have had different visitors. Our first visitor was Jade the dentist, who showed and told us how we are to keep our teeth healthy and clean. Our second visitors were our parents who joined with us in an afternoon of rhyme where we showed our learning of the many nursery rhymes we have been covering throughout the term.

Year 1 Rainbow Fish

In Science and English, the Year 1 students have started learning to describe animal features and the habitats in which they live. We have also been doing artworks about each animal we study. Here we heard the story of the Rainbow Fish and used oil pastels and ink wash to create a beautiful fish. Eventually the students will each choose an animal to complete a project about.

Year 2 Experimentation

Year 2 have been having so much fun exploring mixtures with and without water. The students have made playdough, slime, pancakes and a class mini water cycle. They have been developing their ICT skills by recording their thinking about each experiment on Popplet or Book Creator.

Year 4 St Helena Island

Last Friday morning, we loaded onto the bus, our group of convict substitutes to transport them to St Helena Island in Moreton Bay. Mrs Klinge had been busy allocating them all a number so that they could experience the way that prisoners were known on the island. Although we were able to travel using modern transport, the reality of the isolation, lack of facilities and the workload expected of the prisoners were clearly demonstrated during the excursion. The children witnessed an assimilated flogging of a prisoner and one of the students was involved in the flogging using the Cat 'O' Nine tails. Thank you to all those who joined us on our real-life adventure.

Chinese Students Visit Year 3

Last Wednesday and Thursday Year 3 had the pleasure of hosting students from China. The Year 3 students enjoyed working with the Chinese students and helped them understand English in relation to calendars. They also managed to learn a few basic Chinese words. Many Year 3 students also relished having lunch and playing with their new found friends. It was a wonderful experience for all!
