Five years old? Yes, you're old enough to join the Gifted Education program at St Paul's Lutheran Primary School. Run by the Gifted Education specialist Mrs Christine Gillions, the program starts at Prep and runs right through to Year 6. Identified gifted and talented students are given the opportunity to develop critical and creative thinking skills both individually and in teamwork situations.
"In Semester One, we ran Learning Extension classes from Year 3 up," said Mrs Gillions. "But this semester, we've extended the program right down to Prep – and the children are just loving the journey that they're embarking on!" "The program for our little ones combines both Philosophy and Early Years Literacy skills. Through shared exploration of books – this week it was the much-loved literary classic "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" - the students formulated independent judgments using the traditional storybook and the iPad. The responses they created were excellent!" she said.
Under the watchful eye of Mrs Christine Gillions, the St Paul's Lutheran Gifted Education program has grown from strength to strength since its inception at the end of 2012. For more information, contact the school on 5495 5899.
