Horse-riding is becoming more and more popular amongst the children at St Paul’s Lutheran Primary School, with the number of children competing in local gymkhanas increasing dramatically.
At the Pine Rivers Pony Club’s Sporting Gymkhana last weekend, four young St Paul’s children had fun winning ribbons in the wet and muddy conditions, and were awarded overall trophies in their age groups.
Hayley Smith is just in Year 1, but she won the overall trophy for Age 6 and under. Together with her friends Taylah and Ebony, and big sister Kasey, the four children won two firsts and two thirds overall, and couldn’t keep the smiles from their faces.
“It’s really good to see the children getting out there and having some fun in the sun – or in the rain!” said Kerry Smith, mother to Hayley and Kasey. “And when they also win a ribbon or two, with their two-legged and four-legged friends, it’s even better!”
This last gymkhana follows on from the Caboolture Gymkhana last month, which saw eight children from St Paul’s Lutheran Primary competing. The ever-growing group of budding equestrians is looking forward to more competitions – and more fun with their friends, competing.
