Year 6 Inside Story
Year 6 Inside Story
In Science, students in Year 6 have been exploring the transfer of energy and how it can be transformed from one form to another when generating electricity.
They learned that electrical energy can be transferred and transformed in electrical circuits and can be generated from a range of sources. They identified some sources as preferable to others due to efficiency, availability, effect on the environment and affordability.
Students:
- investigated how electrical energy can control movement, sound, or light in a home;
- selected appropriate materials, components, tools, equipment, and techniques to safely construct model houses, complete with working electrical circuits;
- generated, developed, and communicated design ideas and processes for the presentation of their work to an audience, using appropriate technical terms and graphical representation techniques; and
- explained how scientific knowledge helps us to solve problems and inform decisions about the use of energy
It was wonderful to be able to display and present the model houses and explanation cards at our Learning Expo. Students were able to explain their learning, the process of constructing the houses and their problem solving skills during the construction to parents at the Learning Expo, to visiting classes and to their grandparents!
